When I was old enough to work, my father gifted me my first pocket knife. Being a tradesman, he made it clear that a good knife is an important tool in any handyman's bag. He also made it a point to explain that a sharp knife is much more safe than a dull one.

 

Along with the knife he gave me a double sided sharpening stone and showed me how to keep a fairly good edge on it.

 

It's a skill that constantly evolves, and has become a main hobby to continually get better at each day.
